Ado-Ekiti—In a bid to hasten the payment of their five months salaries owed by the Governor Ayodele Fayose-led administration, Ekiti State workers has taken their case to God, as they declare a three-day fasting and prayer for striking workers in the state.

The organised Labour, which have led its members on strike in the last three weeks, also said there was no truth to the rumour making the rounds that the strike had been suspended.

According to a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday, the fasting and prayer which begins today will end on Thursday.

The release was signed by the secretaries of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr. O. P. Olayemi; Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Mr. J.A. Adebayo and Joint Negotiating Council, Mr. Oladele Ayodeji.

The social media was awash with rumours yesterday that the trade unions decided to suspend the strike after an exhaustive meeting with the governor, which the source said was held on Sunday.

Yesterday’s statement reads: “In view of the current situation in Ekiti State as regards the ongoing strike embarked on by the entire workers in Ekiti State.

“All workers in Ekiti State are invited to a three-day fasting and prayer from Tuesday to Thursday 16th June. It is expected that this should be replicated at all the 16 Local Government Areas in Ekiti State.”

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on the suspension stunt , the Chairman, Trade Union Congress, Comrade  Odunayo Adesoye, said the rumour that the strike had been suspended was far from the truth.
